Martin Warren was born and educated in Cardiff and graduated from Hull University with an honours degree in Mathematical Studies. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Martin trained in Cardiff with Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now PWC), qualifying in 1979. He joined Barratt Bristol Housebuilders in 1982 and moved to Bristol City Council in 1985 to assist the commericalisation of the city's DLO.
In 1989 he returned to Cardiff as Director of Finance of HTV production Services Ltd., created to support the company's bid for it's regional franchise, which it duly won, and then spent a brief time at British Steel in Newport.
Martin joined Cardiff Metropolitan University in March 1992 as the Director of Finance immediately following incorporation and has been responsible for moving Cardiff Metropolitan University from local authority based accounting to the current responsive and dynamic needs of an HE Institution.

Martin is currently:
(a) Chair of the Welsh Higher Education Finance Directors Group (WHEFDG);
(b) Chair of the Higher Education Purchasing Consortium of Wales (HEPCW);
(c) Chair of Young Enterprise Wales, a charity which promotes enterprise education by linking volunteer business people to students of all ages;
(d) A council member of SportWales;
(e) Trustee and company secretary of the UWIC Foundation.
