The BASES 2013 student conference will be hosted by the Cardiff School of Sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University (formerly known as UWIC) on 26th and 27th March 2013. Refreshments will be served and delegate packs handed out between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm on 26th March, with the conference opening at 12:30 pm. This should give delegates plenty of time to arrive.
We have created a range of registration packages to suit all needs and budgets. This ranges from a £70 single day delegate package (with no accommodation), to our £150 "all-in" delegate package which includes two nights bed and breakfast accommodation in a nearby hotel, food (including lunch on 27th March, one evening buffet and the conference dinner and awards night) and refreshments, transport between hotel and conference, conference entrance and entrance to two workshops. For further information see our registration page .
Yes! The success of the conference is dependent on students coming along and presenting their own research. This can be in the form of an oral presentation or a poster presentation. Those wishing to present need to submit an abstract by Wednesday 20th February 2013, although abstracts may be submitted any time before this.
There are a number of awards made for the best types of student presentations. Some of these will be open to all presenters some will only be open to those students who are members of BASES. Student membership to BASES costs £24 per year, if you would like to join BASES click on this link
The workshops are a unique feature of the 2013 BASES student conference and will provide delegates the unique opportunity to engage in professional development. Delegates will be able to attend one workshop for each day they are registered. Workshops are being offered in a diverse selection of topics and will be facilitated by experts and those with first-hand experience. For more information visit the workshop page.
Accommodation will be at the Park Inn Hotel, which is approximately 0.5 mile from the conference venue. Delegates wishing to book accommodation simply need to choose the relevant registration package (i.e. one or two nights accommodation and conference entrance). Accommodation will be provided on a bed and breakfast basis. The accommodation packages do not include the night before the conference as start of time 12:30 pm has been set for the first day to allow delegates to travel (refreshments and delegate packs will be available between 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on the first day). A mini-bus service will run between the hotel and conference site at key times. Further information on the hotel is available on the accommodation pages and details of different packages on the registration pages .
The conference venue and hotel are easily reached by the roads (both just off the A48) and by public transport. Full details on the various transport options are available on the accommodation and transport page.
At the end of each day there will be a social event, which is included in the price of the various registration packages. In the evening of day one a buffet will be served in our student union and the bar will stay open until late for those wishing to socialise. In the evening of day 2 there will be the conference dinner and awards, a conference bus service will then take delegates into the city centre to continue their socialising.
