Equality and Diversity at Cardiff Metropolitan University
At Cardiff Metropolitan University, we are committed to promoting and implementing best practice in Equality and Diversity (E&D). We wish to work beyond the legislative requirements in the delivery of E&D policies, and we aim for equality of opportunity to be embedded in everything we do. We see Cardiff Metropolitan University as an organisation where diversity is valued, equality is promoted and our services are delivered to support all staff and students.
At Cardiff Metropolitan University, we are aware of the need to recognise people’s identities as multi-dimensional. Referring to the current equality legislative context, there are some six or seven identified equality strands – protected groups of people. These ‘strands’ include disability, sexual orientation, age, gender, race, religion and belief. People can fall into several equality strands – there is ‘inter-sectionality’ i.e. multiple identities.
In Wales, the Welsh language is often included under an Equality banner. Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Welsh Language Unit manages the implementation of the Welsh Language Scheme.
