Cardiff Met’s Academic Skills team specialises in teaching you the learning skills you need to thrive academically, no matter what subject you are studying. Beyond teaching you how to write well-constructed essays, reference correctly, or prepare for presentations and exams, the team maintains substantial independent learning resources for academic skills.
Working alongside academic staff, the team collaborates with and visits courses across all Cardiff Met campuses. They teach subject-specific lessons in academic skills, as well as providing interactive courses online. In our learning centres, regular supervised e-learning sessions are available. These sessions show you how to access the resources to learn not just basic academic skills, but higher order learning skills related to critical thinking, information analysis and evaluation, as well as research.
A wealth of learning resources is available to all students on the team’s dedicated website, within the online Learning Portal. The site, limited to current Cardiff Met students and staff, offers interactive tutorials and worksheets, as well as links to the best books and online academic skills resources freely available to Cardiff Met students.
As writing well is the key academic skill you need, you can email short samples of your writing to the team. Your writing will be evaluated and you will get detailed feedback on how to strengthen your written work.
