Accommodation
We understand that accommodation is incredibly important for International Students and that a happy living environment will help you get the most out of your studies. UWIC has a wide variety of accommodation available for our students and we guarantee all single International Students a place in university owned accommodation provided they complete the application procedure before the allocation deadline.

Halls of Residence
UWIC has a selection of Halls of Residence available which are conveniently located within Cardiff. Halls of Residence are suitable for students who will be coming to study on their own at UWIC. You will have a bedroom with its own private en-suite bathroom, which includes a toilet, sink and shower for personal use. The bedroom has a desk, chair, shelves, notice board and bed. Your bedroom will be in a flat with around 7 other students, with whom you will share a kitchen. Halls of Residence accommodation is an excellent place to make friends from all over the world and to share experiences as well as cooking and studying together.
What do the halls of residence contain?
Each self-catered Halls of Residence has a flat of about 8 rooms in each with a well-equipped kitchen, which you share with your flat mates. Each kitchen contains a fridge, freezer, microwave, oven and cooker. You will need to bring or buy on arrival; cutlery, pans for cooking, crockery etc. You don't need to bring bedding with you, you can buy this from the Halls of Residence staff for approximately £20. The package will include a pillow, duvet, sheets, duvet and pillow covers.
How do I book a room in Halls of Residence?
It is very important that you book your room before you arrive in Cardiff. Once you have accepted your offer of a place at the University you will be sent a Pre-Departure Pack containing essential information and the necessary booking forms. You can also access this information by clicking here.
How long can I live in Halls of Residence?
When you book to live in Halls of Residence you will have the convenience of living there for the full academic year (September to the end of June - 40 weeks). Each Halls of Residence has an office with a Halls Manager who will be able to assist you with any problems that you may be having with your room or onsite facilities. These arrangements are slightly different for students arriving for the January intake - please contact the International Office for further details.
Students with Families
Unfortunately like most other UK universities, UWIC is unable to offer accommodation for students who come to Cardiff with their families. Students who arrive with their families or after the allocation deadline will be able to choose from the wide selection of privately owned accommodation that is available in the city with the help of the International Office.

January 2011 Intake Students
Students enrolling in January 2011 will be arriving mid term and as a result, accommodation is unfortunately limited. The rooms which are available will be allocated on a ‘first come: first served‘ basis. For students we are unable to house in Halls of Residence accommodation, there is a wide selection of private accommodation available and the International Office will of course help you find a place.
Information about accommodation for students arriving in January 2011 will be available from December 2010.
Student Wardens
In addition to the Halls Manager, each Halls of Residence has Student Wardens who are available to help you if you have a problem or an emergency occurs. You will get to know the student wardens on your campus very well; some of the wardens are international students themselves, which is worth remembering if you want to speak to someone who has been through a similar experience.
If you have any further questions then please contact the International Office.
