About us

A track record of achievement.

The IIDPS was launched in 2010 to build on 15 years experience in developing a successful regional design support programme and now focussing on providing services for regional economic development offices in understanding and developing their own design/innovation infrastructure, programmes and policy.

Delivered on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government between 1994 and 2009, Design Wales became recognised as providing a leading model for design support and attracted many visitors from around the World from design organisations and regional governments interested in understanding how we provided design support for industry and education:

Design Wales is the best model for design support in Europe
As part of a process of continuous development and to ensure the delivery of best practice we developed international networks and undertook research activities to understand further how design can be successfully introduced to industry and the role of regional policy in making this happen. This insight and experience is now available to other organisations and regions around the World in the form of consultancy, training, workshops, networks and conferences through the work of the IIDPS.

We continue to work under the brand of Design Wales for our design-related business support activities in Wales through activities that include training and a professional design network.

IIDPS is based within the National Centre for Product Design & Development Research (PDR) at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC).
