Dr Robert Mayr is a senior lecturer in linguistics at the Centre for Speech and Language Therapy and a research associate at the ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice, Bangor University. He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the British Association of Academic Phoneticians (BAAP), the British Association of Clinical Linguistics (BACL) and the International Phonetic Association (IPA).
His teaching on the course encompasses a wide range of areas within linguistics, and he is responsible for the co-ordination of final-year dissertations. He also currently functions as an external examiner for the BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy at Reading University.
Robert’s research is concerned with the development of sound systems in bilingual children and adults, exploring in particular the nature of cross-linguistic interactions. His work has been published in a number of high-quality international journals (see personal website for details, including downloadable pdf files). He is currently supervising two PhD students, one working on early phonological development in Welsh-English bilingual children, and the other investigating speech perception assessments in hearing-impaired clients.
