Centre for Biomedical Research

The Centre for Biomedical Research carries out activities on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of human diseases, their prevention and associated therapies. Research is organised within four interacting groups:

Cellular senescence and vascular biology group

 Immunology group

 Diabetes and metabolic health group

 Microbiology and infection group

Interaction between groups is primarily manifested through research degree supervisory teams. In addition the Centre has a number of intramural and extramural collaborations

An important objective of the Centre is the training of PhD students and post-doctoral fellows. The aim is to provide an in-depth understanding of the molecular basis of normal physiology, pathogenic mechanisms, and of novel methods for investigation and therapy. Within this remit the Centre also aims to equip researchers with tools to translate scientific advances within cell and molecular biology into clinical medicine.
