Academic Interests     
Research
 
Research interests focus upon psychological and social factors influencing the perception and management of risk. At present, research is being conducted into risk management and perception of risk in outdoor adventure leisure pursuits.

Teaching
Teaching activities focus upon human and social factors impacting upon the assessment and management of risk, determinants of health related behaviour, health promotion and policy analysis. Contributions are made to the following programmes:

University Responsibilities
Active in leading the development of an MSc programme in Environmental Risk Management in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong
A Director for the Centre for Health Safety and the Environment
Member of the School Marketing team

Other Responsibilities
Involved in the development of a range of new undergraduate and post graduate programmes in the fields of health safety and the environment

Research Profile
Research and consultancy activities focus upon psychosocial factors influencing the perception of and response to risk. Current projects are investigating voluntary risk taking in adventure activities and attitudes towards the implementation of smoking restrictions in pubic places.

Consultancy has been undertaken for a number of national and multinational organisations to provide management training on human factors in Health and Safety.

In addition to this, a major initiative has been undertaken with the University of Hong Kong to develop an MSc in Food Safety Management for Public Health officers and food safety specialist in Hong Kong. It is hoped that this collaborative approach to the delivery of academic programmes can be cascaded to other parts of the world
