Consumer and Trading Standards
The Centre for Public Protection ethos is in support of the National Government’s philosophy of reducing the regulatory burden on the private sector. To this end the programme will cover the trading laws that business is subjected to with a view to allowing business to reduce non-compliance by oversight and ignorance and contribute to a self regulatory scheme with effective controls which will lower their associated risk to the enforcement agencies.
This will allow trading standards professionals to concentrate on the high risk business sector and in particular those that seek to gain an unfair competitive advantage over their competitors by infringing the law.
The degree programme, accredited by the trading standards institute and is unique in its provision in Wales allows candidates to work with the private sector in developing compliance models which will provide benefit and if enforcement is attractive to the candidate provides a mean to enter the trading standards profession. Past graduates have used the degree as a steeping stone to other enforcement roles within the public sector.
For the trading standards professionals who wish to build upon their qualifications in the trading standards qualification framework, the Centre provides the Service Delivery Modules from FCATS to HDCATS and a range of bespoke courses to support their development.
