Equality and Diversity
Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs) are an important part of the mainstreaming equality process.
Public bodies have a legislative duty to be proactive in seeking to identify any potential discrimination before it occurs. Equality Impact Assessment is a systematic process which reviews an organisation’s policies, practices and procedures in respect of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion/belief and sexual orientation.
All existing policies, practices and procedures should be impact assessed to establish if they have an impact – whether positive or negative – on equality groups. Policies are initially screened for impact, and a decision is made whether a full impact assessment will be required.
The EqIA process should be embedded into all UWIC decision-making, whether at a strategic or operational level. All EqIAs should be published.
UWIC is currently undertaking a review of its EqIA process, and mapping our progress in this area. Further information will be available shortly on the Equality & Diversity web pages.
In the meantime, CSHS is publishing its EqIAs undertaken to date.
