Huw Evans is a non-practicing solicitor who lectures in law and related areas. Before moving into lecturing Huw worked as a solicitor in private practice, the Crown Prosecution Service, the Welsh Office and the National Assembly for Wales. He holds a law degree from the University of Bristol and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from UWIC. He is currently studying part-time for a PhD. His thesis concerns consumer protection and the trading standards service in Wales.
Huw Joined the Health and Social Care programme team in August 2011 having previously lectured on a number of degree programmes within UWIC, the most recent being Consumer & Trading Standards. He has noticed how often common themes emerge from seemingly disparate subject areas, For example, part of the role of the trading standards service is to protect consumers from unfair commercial practices, especially where the more vulnerable are concerned due to age or disability. These are themes that have equal prominence in the Health and Social Care context. The pursuit of social justice is another example.
Huw’s areas of interest include devolution, health and social services law, the criminal justice system, human rights, the trading standards service in Wales and the political and policy formulation processes surrounding these areas.
Huw is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy; a member of Law Society, the Association of Law Teachers & the Bevan Foundation; and an affiliate member of the Training Standards Institute.
