UWIC have been working with Somaliland communities in Cardiff since 2003.
This includes:
• Homework club for Somaliland pupils
• A European project on employment conditions for Black and Minority Ethnic communities, where one of the partners was the Welsh Refugee Council (WRC).

Mr. Abdikarim Abdi Adan, the Director of Wales Somaliland Communities Link, allowed UWIC to use their facilities for free to run the homework club for Somaliland pupils. Mr. Eid Ali Ahmed, Deputy Director of the Welsh Refugee Council, was UWIC's link person at WRC for the European project.
Abdi and Eid helped arrange the visit of the Somaliland Vice-Chancellors to UWIC on 15 December 2009.
The two vice-chancellors were President/Vice-Chancellor of Gollis University, Dr Saeed Ahmed Hassan and President/Vice-Chancellor of Hargeisa University, Dr Hussein Bulhan.
