Basketball Academy
UWIC Archers Academy of Basketball is committed to the development of basketball at all levels, from grass roots projects right through to international players.
The UWIC players love their sport and are thoroughly committed to it as you can see when you watch them train and play. They want to share their experiences with as many people as possible and want to develop the game so that it can grow and many more youngsters can benefit from basketball in the way they have.
The Academy is committed to developing basketball on a local and national scale and hence have been, and continue to be, involved in numerous programmes and initiatives. Some examples are: undertaking outreach work in local primary and secondary schools, working with groups such as children whose first language is not English, Cardiff County Council’s youth offenders programme and Alcohol and Drug dependant young mothers, Harlem Globetrotters Camp, BasketballWales Coaching Clinic.
The Coaches at UWIC Academy of Basketball are of the highest standard, and we place huge importance on developing our Coaching Staff so we can continue to be at the forefront of Basketball coaching in Wales. There is a great deal of experience and continuing education within the Academy. We are constantly developing our coaches and officials, recruiting new staff, and giving our Junior players the opportunity to become involved in these schemes.
Coaches either already have, or are undertaking, a sports related course at UWIC, many on the specific Sports Coaching degree or Masters. Coaches are encouraged to gain additional qualifications, attend coaching meetings and undertake regular coaching workshops for their professional development. All Academy coaches are CRB checked.
We want all youngsters to learn about basketball and improve their game in a fun, safe environment. Because of this, we are committed to the Child-Safe IN SPORT Wales guidelines.
