The MIS Unit is responsible for the student data at Cardiff Metropolitan University; it has a key responsibility for government funding and statistical returns as well as being the lead user for the Academic Registry student data systems.

The MIS Unit ensures that all the student records are current and correct by updating and amending the records to reflect students choice of modules, results and any transfers or withdrawals through the use of the CAMS modular tracking package / CIMIS, the in-house package which is the student administration database.  CIMIS enables the MIS Unit to produce reports and to submit the main statistical return in November/December to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). HESA is the official agency for the collection, analysis and dissemination of quantitative information about HE in the UK.  It provides a comprehensive management information system for publicly funded HE.

CAMS modular tracking system holds all of Cardiff Metropolitan Universitys modular data and provides reports for Examination Boards and management.  Student transcripts are also produced from CAMS.  The CAMS system is the primary data source for other university systems; Blackboard and Timetabling.

The MIS Unit also liaises with the other Academic Registry units and assists with general Academic Registry functions during busy periods, such as Examining Boards and the preparation of the Graduation ceremonies.
