Research

Honor is a third year PhD Research Student at Cardiff Metropolitan University undertaking research into adolescents’ attitudes to unprotected sex, teenage pregnancy and young parenthood. Her research interests include the knowledge attitudes and beliefs of young people towards sexual health and teenage pregnancy. Honor’s MSc Health Psychology dissertation was focused on female adolescent perceptions of teenage pregnancy and motherhood. Honor is currently in training to become a Chartered Psychologist and HPC registered health psychologist.

Honor’s PhD research uses mixed methodology to explore adolescents’ attitudes towards unprotected sex, pregnancy and parenthood across Wales. The research will add to the understanding of teenage pregnancy by examining the views and experiences of teenagers themselves. It will contribute to the body of knowledge relating to teenage pregnancy by highlighting salient high-risk variables which may set adolescents on a trajectory to young parenthood. The findings will build on existing knowledge and understanding and may be used to support the development of interventions to reduce teenage pregnancy.
