All our courses at degree level are professionally accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), which ensures the courses fully meet the criteria for application to train to become a Health Professions Council (HPC) registered Biomedical Scientist.

“Earn while you learn” – Students who wish to follow the ‘Applied Biomedical Science’ pathway will be given the opportunity to apply for NHS sponsorship to enable them to combine university based study with paid (up to £18,000 per annum) professional training in the third year in NHS accredited laboratories.

Starting salaries for a biomedical scientist on graduation would be approximately £20,000-£30,000 (with enhancements).

As a result of recent career developments in the NHS, Biomedical Scientists can now aspire to attain consultant equivalent grades within the service.

A Biomedical Science degree also opens up numerous career opportunities such as working for the Health Protection Agency, the National Blood Authority or in the Medical, Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industries.

The Centre of Biomedical Science has “state of the art” research laboratories and facilities and there has been a recent investment of approximately £4 million into the new Biomedical and Food Industry research and enterprise centre.

The Centre of Biomedical Science has 4 internationally recognised research groups; diabetes, wound healing and infection, allergy and lung disease and cell senescence and vascular biology. The cell senescence and vascular biology research group is one of the foremost leading groups in its field and has MRC funded research grants.

Our courses aim to integrate teaching and research and final year students undertake research projects in applied areas of biomedical research.
