Paul Thomas joined UWIC as a senior lecturer in 1989 following a successful secondary school teaching career. At that time, his main responsibilities were to direct and develop the secondary Initial Teacher Education and Training (ITET) programmes for aspiring music teachers. To this end, he was responsible for authoring and delivering the PGCE secondary music programme, the BA (Hns) Secondary Music Education programme and music education modules on the MA (Ed) programme. Since then, he has lectured on a wide variety of other programmes, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, both in the UK and internationally.
Following his appointment as Director of Learning and Teaching in the Cardiff School of Education in 1999, he had a significant impact in developing the use of ICT in the School. He has considerable experience of working as an Estyn inspector of secondary schools. He was awarded a Teaching Fellowship by UWIC in 2003
Since 2004, he has worked as the Head of the former Cardiff School of Education and he was appointed as Dean of the Cardiff School of Education as part of UWIC’s re-structure, in 2006.
Outside his musical interests, he is a keen skier during the winter months.
