Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

At the University, there has been significant reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill. Between 2009 and 2010 the amount of waste reduced by 20%, that's a staggering 90 tonnes saved in a year. Figures for 2011 show a further 23% reduction on the 2010 level.
There are a number of reasons for the reduction in landfill. These include:

  • Increased Recycling and Re-Use
  • Better Waste Segregation
  • Greater Awareness of Waste Legislation
  • Better Control of Waste Areas

The graph below provides the pattern of landfill reduction from 2009 to 2011.
