CarShare2 the University
The scheme, originally introduced in October 2006 in partnership with Cardiff City Council, has grown to become the largest car share scheme operating in South Wales. Staff and students simply register to become part of the scheme (details at http://www.carshare2cardiff.com/
), and are then able to form Carshare groups with colleagues.
The benefits offered to sharers include prioritised parking, cheaper travel costs and reduced emissions. the University currently has 701 members and 34 active groups (with two or more members). These figures are confirmed annually as all participants in the scheme are required to reapply for their permit.
Last year the registered car share groups saved 28.7 tonnes of CO2. If all registered members were to form a share group, this figure might grow to a colossal 534.9 tonnes of CO2!
