Non-Traditional / Overseas Qualifications 

America

High School Graduation Diploma - is considered comparable to GCSE (A*-C) / Credit Standard Grade standard provided an average of at least grade C is obtained in subjects which have counterparts in the GCSE Syllabus, and have been studied to Grade 12.

Advanced Placement Examination - is considered comparable to overall GCE Advanced / Scottish Advanced Higher standard. These exams will be assessed on individual basis. The number of AP exams and grades required for each programme will vary, we would typically look for at least three Group A subjects with grades 3 or 4 to be achieved. UCAS have recently added these exams in to the Tariff with a grade 4 being worth 90 points.

IELTS is not required if applicants have successfully completed English to Grade 12 with a C grade.



Belgium
Qualifications will depend on which area the student has studied in - Flanders (Dutch speaking) or Wallonia (French speaking).

Flanders:
Brevet de Aanvullende Secundaire Beroepsschool (secondary vocational education programme)
- is considered comparable to BTEC National Diploma standard;
Diploma van Secundair Onderwijs - is considered comparable to A level;

Wallonia:
Certificate d'Enseignement Secondaire Superieur -
is considered comparable to A level.
Diplome d'Acces a l'Enseignement Superieur - is considered comparable to A level.

Details of the grading scheme and pass mark will be detailed on the diploma supplement as it differs across each qualifcation, most common scales are 1-10 or 1-20.

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required, some programmes require 6.5 or even 7.0.



Bulgaria

Diploma za Sredno Obrazovaine (Diploma of Completed Secondary Education) - is considered comparable to AS level;

Diploma za Sredno Spetsialno Obrazovanie / Svidetelstvo za Profesionalna Kvalifikasia (Diploma of Completed Secondary Specialised Education) - is considered comparable to AS level standard;

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required, some programmes require 6.5 or even 7.0.



Cyprus

Upper Secondary School (Lykeio) Leaving Certificate (Apolytirio) - is considered comparable to AS level

Each individual subject may be considered at least comparable to GCSE A*-C, including English, provided a mark of 15 has been obtained.

Can be considered for the Foundation leading to Business with a grade of 17 or above.




Czech Republic

Maturitni Zkouska / Maturita - is considered comparable to A level;

Vysvedceni o Maturitni Zkousce (School Leaving Certificate with Maturita from technial / vocational schools) - is considered comparable to BTEC National standard;

The grading system used in schools is on a scale of 1 - 5, a minimum of grade 2 is required for entry:

3 dobry (good)
4 dostatecny (pass)
5 nedostatecny (fail)

France

Baccalaureat - is considered comparable to A level.

Every subject passed may be considered at least comparable to GCSE grades A*-C, where a grade of 10 or above has been obtained, with the exception of English language.

Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife / Abitur -
is considered comparable to A level.

Every subject passed may be considered at least comparable to GCSE grades A*-C; including English, provided it has been taken as a Hauptfach / Leistungskurs, and a mark of 10 / gut has been obtained.

The qualifcation is graded out of 6 overall;

1 - 1.4 A
1.5 - 1.9 B
2 - 2.4 C
2.5 - 2.9 D
3 - 3.4 E




Greece

Apolytirio of Lykeiou (Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate) - is considered comparable to AS level.

This is taken into account ONLY in combination with other qualifications such as A levels.

Hungary

Erettsegi Bizonyitvany (Secondary Education Graduation Certificate) -
alsp known as Matura - is considered comparable to A level.

Brandos Atestatas (Certificate of Maturity) (from a Gymnasium or Secondary School) - is considered comparable to AS level;

Malta

Advanced Matriculation - is considered comparable to A level.
Matriculation Certificate Examination (from the University of Malta) - is considered comparable to A level:

- Grades A (maximum) - E (signifying pass)
- F - Fail

IELTS is not required if applicants have obtained the IGCSE grades A*-C to include English Language.

Poland

Swiadectwo Dojrzalosci (Certificate of Maturity) / Matura - is considered comparable to A level standard;

90 - 100 A
70 - 90 B
50 - 70 C
30 - 50 D
0 - 30 (Fail) Fail

Since 2005 the Matura has been marked on a percentage scale with a pass mark of 30%.

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required, some programmes require 6.5 or even 7.0.

Portugal

Certificado de fim de Estudos Secundarios - is considered comparable to A level.

Marked on a scale of 0-20 where the minimum pass-mark is 10. Eligibility for HE entry would require a minimum of 14 - 17 which is 'bom' (good).

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required, some programmes require 6.5 or even 7.0.

Romania

Diploma de Bacalaureat - is considered comparable to A level;

Diploma de Bacalaureat (Technological/Vocational Profile) - is considered comparable to BTEC National Diploma standard;

Evaluated on a 10 level scale with 5 as the minimum pass mark. Eligibility for HE entry would require a minimum of 7.

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required, some programmes require 6.5 or even 7.0.



Spain

Titulo de Bachillerato
- is considered comparable to A level provided an average mark of at least 6 has been obtained;

Tecnico Especialista (Formacion Profesional - segundo grado) - is considered comparable to BTEC National Diploma / Certificate / Award standard;

Evaluated on a scale of 1-10, 6 being the minimum pass considered for HE, depending on the programme.

A minimum of IELTS 6.0 is required, some programmes require 6.5 or even 7.0.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

European Baccalaureate (EB)
The minimum pass considered for Higher Education is 65%. More information relating to a specific programme can found on www.ucas.com, under entry profiles.

International Baccalaureate Certificate (IB Certificate)
This may be considered on a points basis from the UCAS Tariff depending on the programme. More information relating to a specific programme can found on www.ucas.com, under entry profiles.

If English has been taken at Higher Level where a grade 4 or above has been obtained, this can be taken in lieu of GCSE English Language.

International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB Diploma)
The minimum pass considered for Higher Education is 24 points, this is also the minimum points achieved in order to gain the full Diploma. More information relating to a specific programme can found on www.ucas.com, under entry profiles.

If English has been taken at Higher Level where a grade 4 or above has been obtained, this can be taken in lieu of GCSE English Language.

GCSE English grade C or above, or equivalent is a requirement of all programmes. Examples of alternative qualifications taken in lieu of the GCSE are:

IELTS minimum 6.0 or above;
IGCSE grade C or above (acceptable for UK/EU students only after 6th April 2014 due to changes with UKVI requirements);
Key Skills Level 3 Communication;
Functional Skills Level 2 English;
ESOL Advanced grade C or above;
TOEFL minimum 110 Internet Based, 230 Computer Based and 570-573 Paper Based.

Please be aware that some programmes require higher scores in the alternative English examples.

For students undertaking the new Password Test qualification, a score of 'Password Plus' is considered equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0 or above.
