Course Overview

Our BA (Hons) Accounting and Accounting & Finance courses are professionally accredited by the ACCA, CIMA and ICAEW. They will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to all areas of accounting and prepares you for further study at the final stages of professional accounting qualifications. In addition, we have a strategic partnership with Graham Paul Chartered Accountants which provides for paid student placements with a view to graduate training contracts. Students taking the sandwich option will also undertake a year-long work placement between their second and third years.

Career Potential
There is a considerable demand from UK employers for accounting graduates and past experience suggests that a significant proportion of graduates will obtain graduate training places in finance sections of businesses, high street practices and the public sector.
The course is fully accredited by the main UK accounting bodies and you will be able to obtain maximum exemptions from the ACCA and ICAEW examinations and substantial exemptions from the CIMA examinations. This is therefore a demanding course which combines academic content with the development of the knowledge and skills required to pass the accounting bodies’ final examinations.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSE passes including English Language and Mathematics (at least grade C) or equivalent, plus one of the following:
- 280 points from at least 2 A Levels / Scottish Advanced Higher passes to include grades CC
- QCF BTEC Diploma / Extended Diploma 280 points
- 280 points from the Irish Leaving Certificate at Highers (C2 minimum grade considered)
- Pass Access with 45 credits at Level 3
- 280 points from the Welsh Baccalaureate to include grades CC at A level or equivalent, Core counted as third subject
Those undertaking AAT Level 4, are eligible for 2nd year entry.

Assessment:
Coursework is generally of a very practical nature to reflect the nature of the skills and techniques required by a professional accountant. Assessment for ACCA-accredited modules in year three includes a 3-hour closed-book examination in order to satisfy exemption requirements.
