Course Content
This programme may be taken either concurrently or following completion of the Post Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Footwear. The Certificate will offer you the opportunity of becoming clinically competent in the prescription, fitting and evaluation of therapeutic footwear.
This course focuses on the clinical element of Therapeutic Footwear and gives practical skills in prescribing and fitting all types of surgical footwear. You will be required to have access to patients who need specialist footwear for the effective management of their foot condition. UWIC cannot provide patients for students undertaking this module.
Tutors at UWIC will be in regular contact with you as you undertake the clinical component. They will visit you at least twice during the programme, use telephone and e-mail to provide ongoing support and address any day-to-day difficulties that you may encounter. You will also be encouraged to establish a self support network and will benefit from mentoring by a qualified practitioner.
Career Potential
Students enrolling on this programme will already be working in healthcare however, the enhanced knowledge base, and reflective, critical approach to practice that results will enhance career development potential. The course provides an opportunity for members of certain health disciplines, including occupational therapists, orthotists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and prosthetists registered with the Health Professions Council to undertake further Master’s level study in the prescription, fitting and evaluation of all types of therapeutic, surgical and orthopaedic footwear.
Entry Requirements
You must be registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and will either need to be currently undertaking the Post Graduate Certificate or already have successfully completed it

Course Length:
One year (June-June). This course runs simultaneously with the theory component of the Post Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Footwear. Study is primarily carried out at your place of work with three one week contact blocks where attendance at the Llandaff campus is necessary. You will be supported throughout by sophisticated e-learning strategies.
Assessment:
Assessment of the clinical component is by clinical log which will require the completion of a specified number of reflective, analytical case studies involving patients who require treatment with the use of therapeutic footwear in three categories: stock surgical footwear, modular footwear and orthopaedic footwear.
