Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 are intended to help make the public sector more open and accountable by allowing members of the public to scrutinise the decisions they make and the services they provide.
Cardiff Metropolitan University embraces the general principle of openness, as outlined in our Openness Policy.
Our Freedom of Information Policy and Environmental Information Policy are a statement of the University's commitment to comply with legislation and to increase public access to the information that is held.
The Freedom of Information Act places two responsibilities on 'public authorities', including universities. The first of these is to produce a 'Publication Scheme', which is a guide to the information that it already publishes. Cardiff Metropolitan University's Freedom of Information Publication Scheme is available on-line, or it can be requested as a paper copy. The Publication Scheme also includes the information that is published in accordance with the Environmental Information Regulations. The University has also produced Publication Schemes for two companies that are wholly owned by Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC Company Ltd and Cardiff Institute Residences Company Ltd).
Cardiff Metropolitan University's second responsibility, under both the Act and the Regulations, is to respond to individual requests for access to information. If you would like to see or have a copy of any information that the University holds, then please have a look at the guide to requesting information. You can also download and print the guide as a Word document How to Request Information from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
If you believe that Cardiff Metropolitan University is failing to comply with its Publication Scheme, that a request you made wasn't properly handled or are unhappy about the outcome of the consideration given to a request, its Complaints Procedure outlines how you can complain.
More information about the Freedom of Information Act, The Environmental Information Regulations and the Data Protection Act is available in the Access to Information Guide and news about the legislation is available as well. There is also specific guidance for staff.
