Thought provoking lecture a huge success

A LECTURE by Professor Michael Braungart, Visiting Professor for Cardiff School of Art and Design at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), left attendees impressed with his revolutionary way of thinking.

Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things, was seen as the first step in a process of identifying potential partners within Wales’ key design, manufacturing and sustainability stakeholders.

The eventual aim is to implement a Cradle to Cradle support network in partnership with higher education establishments and other bodies in Wales, as a model for the UK.

Prof. Braungart is a materials scientist and co-author of the ground-breaking book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things. In Cradle to
Cradle he has created a way of looking at interaction with the environment that challenges every other environmental approach and casts many sustainability conventions in doubt. In their place he presents a way of thinking that involves designers, materials scientists and businesses seeking to create products that are endlessly and actively good for the environment.

Cradle to Cradle as a philosophy is sympathetic to commercial drivers and seeks to work with business through the pursuit of new environmental policies. Prof. Braungart (who founded Greenpeace International’s Chemical Division) has worked with companies such as Ford, Nike and Herman Miller.
