UWIC welcomes new students in style
THE University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) held the ultimate welcome event for their thousands of new students this week.
Around 2,500 students filled the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC) at UWIC’s Cyncoed campus for the spectacular event to introduce them to student life.
As well as an official welcome from UWIC’s Vice Chancellor and the Student Union President and his team, there were more than 70 stands from various clubs and organisations at the Freshers’ Fayre.
Adam Painter, SU president, said: “Last year was a brilliant event which gave the students a great welcome to UWIC and the City of Cardiff. This year with more information on academic life, more exhibitors and more activities taking place on the campus, it was even bigger and better.”
The Freshers’ Fayre gave the new students the opportunity to see the diverse range of activities that UWIC has to offer as a university, and that Cardiff has to offer as a city,
With UWIC’s clubs giving a glimpse of what’s on offer in the form of surfing, rugby, volleyball, lacrosse and cheerleading, plus a presence from Cardiff businesses such as The Bike Shed, Imogen’s Nails and Liquid Nightclub all offering special deals and discounts, students really got a taste of university life.
One Fresher, Dan Pictor from Swansea who is starting BA Secondary Drama said: “It has been a really fun day. The Student Union President was really good and I have enjoyed the Freshers’ Fayre and have signed up for the swimming and surfing clubs – as well as making the most of the freebies!”
