World-famous expert to speak at food-safety meeting

ONE of the world’s most highly respected food safety legal experts is to speak at an important food safety conference taking place in Cardiff on Wednesday18th June.

Food Network Wales is hosting its fourth annual conference on ‘Hot topics in the Agri-food Industry’ with key speaker William Marler, a personal injury lawyer and international expert in foodborne illness litigation.

A major force in food safety, William Marler has represented thousands of victims of food poisoning resulting in compensation payouts worth millions of dollars.

Sponsored by the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) the topic is timely given a recent £3million compensation award given to UK tourists who contracted food poisoning while visiting Spain. Cardiff has also received adverse publicity in the past week relating to poor hygiene standards noted in several city centre takeaways.

The event will also feature speakers from UWIC’s Food Research and Consultancy Unit who will be presenting on food safety training, the latest   BRC food standard and the importance of microbiological testing in food safety management.

William Marler has also established charitable trusts with the aim of improving food safety standards throughout the food chain - from farm to fork. Building on this, his commitment to improving food regulation has led to invitations to address local, national, and international gatherings on food safety, including recent testimony to US Congress Committee on Energy and Commerce.
