Students Make their Mark on national competition
A TEAM of enterprising students from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) have come third in a national competition recently with their unique business idea.
Judges at the national finals of the Make Your Mark Challenge were impressed with the students’ business solution to power traffic lights in Cardiff using alternative energy.
The team of four Cardiff School of Management students from UWIC’s Enterprise Club ‘The Bee’ beat off stiff competition with their Green Light idea when they were selected to attend the final in the Universities section of the Challenge, from around 200 entries.
They were one of ten finalists who travelled to London where they developed their business idea before delivering a final pitch to a panel of judges including entrepreneur Seb Bishop who starred in Channel Four’s Millionaire’s Mission.
Tim Savage, UWIC’s Entrepreneurship Learning Director, said: “This was a first for UWIC to have a team win in a national Enterprise Challenge, so to finish third overall is an outstanding achievement.
“The team were thrilled to go to London to compete and to come away with a cheque for £1,000 for their environmentally friendly business idea.”
