Talented Student Bags Shop Front Design

A talented Art & Design student studying at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) has won a competition to display her designs in the window of UWIC’s Gallery and Advice shop at Cardiff’s Capitol Shopping Centre, as part of Cardiff Design Festival.

Charlotte Stockdale, 19, whose unique design will be used as the window graphics to catch shopper’s attention, will also be printed onto 700 environmentally friendly re-usable shopping bags exclusively for the Capitol Shopping Centre.

Speaking on her achievement, Charlotte said: “I was so shocked that mine had been chosen, I’m really pleased about it. It’s going to be lovely seeing people walking around the city centre carrying a bag with my design”.

Working in partnership with the Capitol Shopping Centre and Cancer Research Wales, the brief for students was to create a design that was fashionable, young and fresh whilst symbolising hope, togetherness and support.

Lynsey Barnsley-Trowe, Assistant Centre Manager at the Capitol Shopping Centre, concluded: “The standard of all of the artwork produced by UWIC’s students for the project was phenomenal but, for us, Charlotte’s designs really stood out.

She has successfully captured the hope and support that symbolises Cancer Research Wales within a vibrant and youthful design that works well for the Capitol Shopping Centre and its retailers. I think that the new bags will be a hit with shoppers.”

The canvas shopping bags will be used as free giveaways at the fashion show in the Holland House on Monday 6th October which will include high street fashion and live entertainment.

Elizabeth Andrews, Deputy Charity Director for Fundraising at Cancer Research Wales is looking forward to a full turn out and a positive result. She said: “This is such an exciting event, its fantastic that so many Welsh organisations and individuals are so keen to support pioneering cancer research projects in Wales. Charlotte’s design will make the ‘Goodie Bags’ on the evening something truly special.”

The UWIC Gallery and Advice shop will exhibit an extensive range of art work from UWIC students and artists throughout Cardiff Design Festival.
