Stephanie bowls over Cricketing Centre of Excellence
A student from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) has bowled her way in to a prestigious cricketing academy in her first year at university.
Stephanie Davies, 20, has joined the Cardiff/Glamorgan MCCU (Marylebone Cricket Club University), one of six University Cricketing Centres of Excellence across the UK.
Already a successful cricketer, Stephanie has debuted for the England Women’s cricket team against Australia as well as winning the Premier League South Title with Bath Cricket Club.
The Cardiff/Glamorgan MCCU enables cricketers with promise to further their careers in the sport while also developing their education.
As a member of the centre, Stephanie will be able to choose from a wide range of courses and at the same time have access to high quality cricket facilities. The MCCU scheme has already produced some top cricketing names like Monty Panesar, Jamie Dalrymple and James Foster.
Graham Haines, Cardiff/Glamorgan MCCU Cricket Manager, said: “We are delighted that Stephanie has joined the MCCU programme, she is a cricketer who shows great promise and had already achieved on the international stage.
“Women’s cricket is a developing area, and in developing women like Stephanie through the Cardiff/Glamorgan MCCU programme, the eventual aim is to mirror the success of men’s cricket, both at County and International standard.”
