UWIC is jumping for joy!

A RECORD number of athletes from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) competed in the Welsh National Trampoline Championships recently.

Almost 40 per cent of entrants to the competition were from the UWIC Academy of Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics which is a great achievement at a national competition. The UWIC squad were very successful on the day taking home individual titles in the mens and over 18 mens (Mark Samuels), under 18 boys (Matt Leigh) and under 11 girls (Zainub Akbar) categories. The team also won medals in eight out of 12 categories. In addition to this they won six team titles (Ladies, over 18 ladies, over 18 men, under 13 girls, under 13 boys and under 11 girls).

Jake Bailey, Trampolining Coach at UWIC, Said: “Every year more of our members are reaching this standard and it is an excellent indication of how the standards within the club are continuing to rise. There were some amazing performances and results throughout the day.

“It was a fabulous day for the club, just getting to the standard which means you can compete at this event is an excellent achievement, to win, medal, or final is outstanding, especially as the standard of Welsh Trampolining is continuing to increase at quite a pace.”
