XX Women’s Writing Festival
Make sure you’re a part of the first ever XX Women’s Writing Festival on Saturday 27 October, featuring readings, interviews and performances by prize-winning fiction writers and poets.
This year’s XX authors include novelist Nikita Lalwani, longisted for the Booker Prize; fiction writer Rachel Trezise, Dylan Thomas Prize winner; poet Rhian Edwards, winner of the John Tripp Spoken Word Award, who was also shortlisted for this year’s Forward Prize; and short story writer Roshi Fernando, shortlisted for the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award.
The XX Festival, initiated to celebrate writing by women in Wales and the world, is aimed at all readers of intelligent books, as well as people interested in writing. Editors from publications such as the New Welsh Review and Planet, as well as publishers Seren Books, Mulfran Press, Honno and Parthian, will also be on hand at our book stalls to talk about their journals and books.
Carole Burns, a Cardiff Met lecturer in Creative Writing, is one of the co-founders of the event and will be interviewing Lalwani during the festival.
Afternoon readings start at 2.30 p.m., with a reception at 5 p.m.; the XX Literary Salon, as much performance as reading, begins at 7.30 p.m.
And do know – men are welcome at XX, too. Y not?
All attendees may be pleased to learn that XX coincides with the Oktoberfest Beer Festival at Chapter.
Tickets are £15. Offer not available online - book in person or by phone at Chapter Box Office on 029 2030 4400.
