Last week Cardiff Met Students’ Union (SU) President; Ruth Foster and Vice President; Anna Hutchinson visited strategic partners in Morocco with a view to understand and experience what it is to be a student in Morocco.

Accompanied by the International Office, the SU visited Cardiff Met's Transnational Education (TNE) partner the Superior Institutions of Science and Technology (SIST) and Hassan II University - Casablanca; both of which are partners in the current Erasmus Mundus EU-METALIC project that offers Cardiff Met students the chance to study overseas on an exchange visit at their institutions on fully funded scholarships.

During the visits, Ruth and Anna were taken on tours of the university campuses, introduced to their Moroccan counterparts to understand the educational system and student lifestyle in the Moroccan partners, and also met Cardiff Met students studying franchised programmes at SIST.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to see a different culture and meet the Cardiff Met TNE students. From this we will be able to feed this back to our on-campus students here at Cardiff Met, in order to encourage them to experience a study abroad exchange.” They commented. Whilst at the universities they took part in information sessions about the Erasmus Mundus EU-METALIC project, giving an insight to the Moroccan students on what it is like to be a Student in Cardiff.

Meeting with the SIST SU staff and students gave them insight on how they can cooperate and opened up discussions of best practice, as well experiencing first-hand what it’s like to be a student in Morocco. “Everyone was really welcoming and it was very interesting to hear how the university is run. We will be encouraging our students to take part in the Erasmus Mundus EU-METALIC scheme as it’s such a great opportunity for our students now that employers are recognizing how important global citizenship is.”

The EU-METALIC project deadline is 21st January 2013. Interested applicants should visit
