22/11/2012 09:00

A Cardiff Metropolitan University student has joined forces with a top DJ to raise money for Ty Hafan children's hospice.

Gethin Ceidiog Hughes and headliner Mikey-Ro have recruited a host of other DJs for a top drum and bass music night in aid of Tŷ Hafan which provides care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families.

The event, ‘Pitch Presents Mikey-Ro’ will take place at the Moon Club in Womanby Street, this Sunday (November 25th).

Gethin, a Product Design student at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said: "A children’s hospice certainly puts everything else into perspective - we really don’t know how lucky we are.

“It costs £3 million a year to run this vital service to help younger people and their families with support and I just wanted to do something to help.

"If it wasn't for Tŷ Hafan, these really important services would not be available to families from Cardiff and across the rest of Wales.

“I love drum and bass music and I’ve got a lot of friends within the scene in Cardiff and I just started asking around to see if it was possible.

“Now we’re in a position where we can put on a really good night and give people a really good time and at the same time help a lot of people by raising money.

“We’ve got fantastic DJs on the bill and we’re very grateful to them because they’re all have giving their time for nothing. I’d also like to thank the Moon Club because they have generously given us the room for free.

Tŷ Hafan was created in 1999 after an 11 year fundraising campaign by founder Suzanne Goodall MBE, with the purpose of giving a helping hand to families that live with the unbearable reality that their child will die before adulthood.

“It’s fantastic that this group of young people have got together to put on this special night for Tŷ Hafan,” said Frank Ady from the fundraising team at the hospice.

“I am sure everyone is going to have a really good night and they will do so knowing they are helping to make a real difference to families from across Wales who need our help and support.

“On behalf of the families and everyone at Tŷ Hafan I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved for their wonderful support.”

The event starts at 9:30pm and entry is £4.
