Top sport figures gather for UWIC event
WALES’ most prolific sport school at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) is playing host to an important event which is attracting some top names from the world of sport.
Niels De Vos, Chief Executive of UK Athletics; Lynn ‘The Leap’ Davies, CBE, President of UK Athletics and Olympic gold medal winner; and swimmer David Roberts, Wales’ most successful Para-Olympian of all time - will be some of the special guests at the UWIC Cardiff School of Sport Dinner tomorrow, Thursday 27 November.
Entitled Beijing to London 2012 and Beyond, the Dinner will see Mr De Vos reflect on the Beijing Olympics and overview plans for success in London 2012.
His talk will focus on the planning implications emerging from the performance of Team GB in China and cover aspects of physical, human and financial planning relating to sustaining and improving the achievement levels on home soil in 2012.
Lynn Davies, who is also a UWIC Fellow, said: “It is great to be hosting Niels De Vos as our guest speaker at this UWIC Dinner. As the CEO of UK Athletics Niels works closely with the home nations to develop the sport at all levels. Within Wales, UWIC and the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC) plan to be part of the preperations leading to London 2012 and beyond.”
The Cardiff School of Sport Dinner is at the Celtic Suite Restaurant at UWIC’s Colchester Avenue campus on Thursday 27 November, from 6.30pm.
