UWIC Rider Pass Hits Magic 2000
Records were smashed today when a student of the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) purchased the 2000th UWIC Rider bus pass.
The lucky student, Dafydd Pierce-Evans, 19, from Penylan, Cardiff, recently made the sale, unbeknown of the fortunate number, winning him and three friends a 3-course Christmas meal paid for by UWIC.
The sale has now shattered last year’s record, which was 1,900 at its peak.
Dafydd, who is studying his first year of a Sports Development course at UWIC’s Cyncoed campus, will now use his pass four days a week to travel back and forth to the city centre and between campuses to visit friends.
He said: “At first when I came to university, I didn’t have a Rider pass and every time I used the bus it would cost me £1.60. My friends had all purchased one, so I thought it would benefit me in the long run.”
“If anybody is thinking of getting one, I’d recommend it as it’s definitely worth their while. A friend of mine worked out that if you use the buses a minimum of twice a week, it works out cheaper over the course of the year to get a UWIC Rider.
UWIC’s yearly rider passes are currently on sale at £205, which works out at £5.26 a week, with opportunities to travel in and around Cardiff at ease.
