UWIC Decks Its Halls with Bells and Holly

Christmas bells are beginning chime this week, as the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) prepares to host its 53rd annual Christmas Carol Service at Cardiff’s Llandaff Cathedral on Friday 5th December 2008.

Open to all UWIC’s staff, students and general members of the public, over 300 guests are expected to attend, along with The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Cardiff and President of UWIC, Councillor Kate Lloyd and John Wyn Owen (CB), Chairman, UWIC Board of Governors, who will be hosting the service.

The service, which will include classic hymns and carols such as Hark, the Herald Angels Sing and Silent Night, Holy Night, will be followed by mince pies and mulled wine inside UWIC’s Main Hall, at its Llandaff Campus for all guests.



Performing at the Cathedral is St Teilo’s Church in Wales Secondary School Choir who will perform the anthem of The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came, and all-girl quartet, Dolce Cantare, who will be performing twp pieces including, Ding Dong Merrily on High, and The Peace of God.

UWIC has also suspended all lectures between 10am and 1pm, to allow as many as possible to attend and join in the start of Christmas celebrations.

Leading up to the service, UWIC has invited its staff to donate small gift wrapped items such as sweets, toiletries, socks etc, which will be distributed by Llandaff Cathedral to the Wallich-Clifford Community and Cardiff Action for Single Homeless for Christmas Day.

Presenting the collection of Christmas gifts to the Bishop, are the children of UWIC’s nursery, the gifts will then be blessed, and passed onto the charities.
