It is likely that when you travel to the UK your flight will be scheduled to arrive at a London airport (Heathrow or Gatwick). However, it may be possible to book a flight to Cardiff International Airport. The major international flights that arrive at Cardiff International Airport are with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. If you would prefer to travel to Cardiff rather than London, you will need to book a flight from your home country to Amsterdam and then a connecting flight from Amsterdam to Cardiff. This is a very convenient way to travel as Cardiff Airport is only 30 minutes from the city of Cardiff. Alternatively, the second most convenient option is London Heathrow Airport. The free Airport Welcome services is available from both Cardiff and Heathrow airports on specified dates only.

Please complete this Airport Welcome Booking Form and return it to if you are arriving in June or July 2014.

Please complete this Airport Welcome Booking Form and return it to if you are arriving in Septemeber or October 2014.

Please ensure that you return the form by the deadline dates detailed on the form so that arrangements can be made for you. Please note that confirmation of your airport transfer will be sent to you by email about a week before you are due to arrive. Therefore, please print your email address clearly on the booking form. If you do not inform the international office of your arrival details, there will be no arrangements made for you. Please contact the International Office if you have any queries:

There is a bus which travels directly to Cardiff Bus Station from Heathrow Airport which is called National Express. On the National Express website you will see timetables, ticket booking information and general information about luggage allowance. (Please note that National Express will only carry two medium suitcases at 23kg each and one piece of hand luggage per person). If you travel by National Express, you will need to get off the coach at Cardiff Central Bus Station in the city centre and take a taxi to your accommodation. A one-way National Express bus ticket will cost approximately £45.00. Taxi fare is calculated according to the distance travelled. However, an extra amount may be added for luggage, therefore it is advisable to keep £10-£15.00 aside for your journey within the Cardiff area. If you are arriving in Cardiff Airport it couldn't be easier to travel into Cardiff City Centre via the Cardiff Airport Express. The bus service provides more frequent, comfortable and speedier journeys for travellers between Cardiff Airport and the city centre.

The service will include:

  • 20-minute service frequency, seven days a week, from early morning to late at night
  • Coach-style leather seating, climate control, WiFi, extra luggage space and improved on-board information

  • Tickets cost from £5

It is compulsory for some nationalities to carry chest x-ray results or a medical certificate in their hand luggage when passing through immigration in the UK. Please check with your local British Council before travelling. Please note that people who do not bring appropriate documentation may be refused entry into the UK. They will certainly be delayed in airport immigration for some time, often causing them to miss their onward travel connections.

When you arrive at a UK airport, you will need to pass through Immigration Control. In order to make this process as smooth and stress-free as possible, it is essential that you are prepared and know what to expect to happen at Immigration Control. We would strongly advise you to read the guidance notes provided by UKCISA and that you prepare the items listed below in advance of your journey to the UK.
  • Valid passport containing student visa/ entry clearance
  • Travel tickets
  • Money - some cash in British Pounds (sterling) PLUS travellers cheques or a credit card for use on arrival until you can open a bank account
