Ray Kemp has an MBA from the Open University and PGCE & PGPP qualifications from the University of Wales (Cardiff). He is also a professionally qualified accountant as a member of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.

He has worked in the manufacturing and local government sectors as a senior accountant and has taught in further and higher education colleges for 29 years. He also has considerable experience as a school governor in Cardiff schools, including several years as the chair of governors of a large secondary school and chair of its Finance & Personnel committee for many years.

Ray’s teaching areas are mainly management accounting and corporate finance. In this context, he is particularly interested in changes in management accounting practice in the wake of the modernisation of production, including activity based budgeting and target costing. In the area of corporate finance, his particular interests are corporate gearing and dividend policies and their links to share value.

For many years, Ray has been a distance learning tutor for the FRAA module on the BSc Financial Services run by the Institute of Financial Services/Manchester Metropolitan University. He is a UW Moderator for franchised degree programmes at two European colleges in Spain & Greece.

Ray has held several key academic posts at UWIC posts in the past but currently his main activity outside teaching relates to his role as UCU UWIC casework co-ordinator.
