Phil Jones is a Senior Lecturer and as module leader is responsible for the delivery of the finance modules at all levels in Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management programmes in the school.

Following a career in management with multi-national companies, including 10 years spent overseas, Phil began teaching at UWIC in 1997 with the Business School whilst undertaking a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Moving to the Welsh School of Hospitality, Tourism & Leisure Management in August 1999, Phil has developed the finance modules to meet the requirements of organisations in the industry sectors and to equip students with the necessary understanding, financial skills and knowledge to take informed management decisions. Experienced in computerised accounting and control systems Phil developed and delivered a Computerised Accounting module for accounting students.

Phil has written several case studies, for internal use, on the market, economics and finances of Plc’s in Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure including ‘Manchester a city of two tales’ on the finances of premiership football, ‘Fitness Clubs – running out of steam?’, ‘What’s brewing in the UK?’, ‘100 years of flight’ and ‘£2.40 a pint - who gets the cash?’

Phil continues his professional development and industry involvement, consulting on accountancy and financial management for SMEs including several in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

In his outside life Phil has suffered trials and tribulations, witnessed reckless profligacy and magnificent failure and continues to endure this ‘Blue Moon’ as a ‘Citizen’ of Manchester City Football Club. His other main interest can be equally exciting and frustrating, a keen (reckless?) rider and hunter in the past, his equestrian interests continue as a follower and spectator of three day eventing and National Hunt racing.
