I graduated from UWIC in 1989 and worked in the hospitality industry for Bass, Marriott & Whitbread over a number of years. I then moved into Sales & Marketing with a European company until I decided to return to university and embark upon my PGCE, which I gained in September 2005 from the University of Wales, Newport.
I started teaching at UWIC as part of my PGCE teaching practice and then became a part-time lecturer before gaining a full-time position in 2007. I completed my MSc in Hospitality Management in 2006 and am now embarking upon a Professional Doctorate: Making Management Theories tangible to first-year undergraduates to enhance their learning. This research will focus on seeking out "best practice" that is implemented by other Management schools alongside the restructuring and re-modelling of two core level one modules that run school wide within Cardiff School of Management.
I am currently Year 1 Tutor for the BA and HND Hospitality and International Hospitality & Tourism Management students and module leader for a range of modules from undergraduate to M level.
My research for my MSc focused upon healthy eating for children within the hospitality industry which is an area that interests me and that I am able to bring into the contemporary nature of my teaching.
I achieved a Teaching Fellowship from UWIC in 2007 to focus on research into front-loading academic skills and how this could be integrated into the curriculum.
