Jeff graduated from Swansea University in economics in 1967 and then completed a two years Master’s by research on the “Economics of Advertising”.
He joined Rolls Royce Aero Engines Ltd (Bristol) in 1969 and it was there that his interest in accountancy, and management accountancy in particular, was developed. It was an interesting time to be in the aero engine business with the development of Concorde, the Harrier jump jet and the Tornado.
He eventually found himself working at the University of Glamorgan and became Associate Director of the biggest business school in Wales. During this period he became involved in marketing the school and developed the delivery of post graduate programmes in Bahrain, Zambia, and Germany.
He has always believed in the American model that Universities should engage with the outside world as much as possible. Consequently he has been a consultant for Allied Irish Bank and Financial Director of Codas Business Systems Ltd.
On academic quality issues he has worked for HEFCW and HEFCE as a specialist advisor and also managed two HEFCW events in Swansea University.
Jeff has written 4 books and has had approximately 25 articles published. One of the books “Managerial Economics” Heinemann 1977 won the textbook of the year award.
Jeff teaches on years 1 and 2 of the business and accounting programmes at UWIC and enjoy greatly the continuing process of trying to make accountancy relevant and palatable.
