I am interested in critical tourism studies and hence how tourism can be a vehicle through which social justice and transformation are achieved. My PhD for example was concerned with challenging ageism and the stereotypes surrounding later life.  I am also a Board member of the Welsh Centre for Critical Tourism Research which aims to promote critical tourism studies and coordinate the School's work in this area.

I have published work on older people's engagement in both tourism and leisure, as well as the role of Biographical research methods as a tool for exploring this involvement. Some of my earlier work looked at Gay tourism and in particular the development of Manchester's Gay Village. At the moment I am working on a journal article which challenges traditional quantitative approaches to the study of ageing within tourism studies, proposing a shift towards more critical and democratic approaches using creative qualitative research methods.
