Dewi is a senior lecturer within the department for Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management and Programme Director for the BA (hons) and HND Events Management programmes.

Dewi primarily teaches Events Management, although he has also been involved in the delivery of a range of other modules and disciplines within the Cardiff School of Management.  Within the area of Events Management at undergraduate level he is module leader for Fundamentals of Events Management, Events Planning and Event Operations and at post graduate level he leads the Contextualising the Events Industry and Business Stewardship for Events modules.

In terms of research his particular areas of interest are music events and festivals and he’s completed various research within this area towards his PhD titled ‘Raving On: Exploring the Construction and Consumption of Dance Music Experiences’.

His PhD Thesis examined the plethora of influences that contribute to the construction and consumption of contemporary dance music experiences, beginning with a contextualization of contemporary dance culture and a review of the theorization of dance culture before moving onto exploring the attitudes of participants, their motivations for participation and their preferences for dance music experiences.

He also investigated the role of the media in the construction and consumption of dance events.  To research these areas a cross-disciplinary approach was adopted combining events theory, leisure and tourism theory, anthropology, sociology and cultural and media theory and a range of ethnographic research methods were utilised including participant observation, field trips, in-depth interviews, focus groups, internet research and discourse analysis.

Recent publications include articles in the Leisure Studies journal and Leisure Experiences: Space, Place and Performance, both of which focus on different aspects of dance music events and festivals.
