I graduated from Aberystwyth University with an economics degree and then moved into public practise and completed my Chartered Accountancy training with PriceWaterhousecoopers (formerly Coopers and Lybrand). Having audited companies with activities as diverse as steel manufacture and casino gambling, I moved out into industry.
The next ten years I spent as a financial accountant in the printing industry and as a management accountant in the food manufacturing industry.
My final industrial role was as Manufacturing Support Manager for Walkers Snack Foods, who are a wholly owned subsidiary of Pepsico. This role broke away from the traditional accounting mould as I was responsible for installing a £2million production line for a new product range.
At UWIC I lecture Auditing and Financial Accounts and try to breathe life and fun into ‘dry’ subjects using the huge bank of hands-on experience I gained from public practise and industry. The Cardiff School of Management has been awarded recognition of professional exam exemptions by the ACCA. I am pleased to say that I am one of the team lecturing the modules that gain these exemptions for the students.
