After obtaining his first degree in 1980 from UWIST he joined the graduate programme of Midland Bank. Starting work in Pontypridd he moved to Cardiff (during this time he became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers) and then London- latterly in the specialised Lending Unit. On moving back to Cardiff he worked for The Commercial Bank of Wales as a lending manager, General Accident and Abbey National. He is now a member of the ILT and a UW moderator.

In 1992 Chris joined UWIC as a lecturer in Financial Services and in 1996 took over course directorship of the Banking & Insurance courses. He became a senior lecturer in 1997 and continues to focus on lecturing  “because it’s the fun part of the job”  His most recently validated module in “Banking & Financial Intuitions” which he seems to end up re-writing almost weekly as the global financial crisis tears up all the old books.  Of himself he says “I used to read science fiction for relaxation but a new baby, a pony and two guinea pigs has stopped that”.

He is the author of Lending and Securities and co-author of "Corporate Lending & Securities" and "Corporate Banking Law and Practice" and his research interests revolve around Financial Services and personal debt. He regularly contributes to TV and Radio programmes in his field.
