I am a Reader in Hospitality in the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management.  I am the level 5 year tutor for the Hospitality Management programmes and teach hospitality based subjects on both undergraduate and post graduate programmes.  I also supervise a number of PhD students in hospitality and associated fields.

I graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1978 and worked in the hospitality industry in various hotels, members clubs, and for the Institute of Hospitality (formerly the HCIMA, Hospitality, Catering and International Management Association) before I started teaching in the FE sector. I moved to UWIC now Cardiff Metropolitan University in 1995.

I am an active member of the Welsh Centre for Tourism Research and lead the Socio-Cultural Perspectives on Hospitality research group within this.  I was awarded my PhD entitled ‘Identifying the UK Wine Consumer’ in 2006 and have subsequently conducted research both nationally and internationally in the area of socio-cultural alcohol-related consumption behaviours.  I have also published work in the area of food and beverage and have won several awards for my publications.  I am an editorial board member for several international journals including the British Food Journal. I am also an Ethics Co-ordinator for the Cardiff School of Management.
